Dear Parents,
The 2020-2021 school year is a very special year for everyone at James H. Bright/J.W. Johnson Elementary School. We raised our school grade to a “B” and we are on our way to an “A”. As your Principal, I welcome you to join us in all our endeavors. Schools are most successful when a team effort is made by the school, parents and community. We need your utmost support as we continue to strive for excellence in education.
The security of our students is a priority and that of the School District. For the 2020- 2021 school year, measures have been taken to strengthen security. Law enforcement presence and support will continue to be provided during the school day. School security personnel have assigned posts on campus. Additional security cameras have been installed and a visitor management security system to screen visitors is in place. There is only one point of entry into the school, which is the Main Entrance, and parking lots, except the Main Entrance parking lot, are closed during the school day. Our students have their morning line up indoors and all exterior doors remain locked during the school day. We are a closed campus, therefore, only students and staff are allowed entry beyond the Main Office. Parents and all other visitors must be screened using the visitor management system and must report to the Main Office for assistance.
Student daily attendance is crucial. Students are expected to be in attendance daily for the entire school day and not arrive late or leave early. We ask for your cooperation in assuring that your child receives a full day of instruction. We have a new attendance plan in place with incentives. We need your support in assuring your student attends school daily.
The school, parents, and community have the power to make a world of difference in the lives of our students. We invite your continued involvement and investment in the education of every child attending James H. Bright/J.W. Johnson Elementary School. Our children are our greatest resources. I look forward to an exciting and rewarding year. This handbook contains important information about our school. Please read it carefully and keep it as a reference throughout the school year. If you have any questions about the information provided, please call the school at 305-885-1683 for assistance and/or clarification.
Sincerely,
Claudine Winsor
Principal
